Ethercrypt Terms of Service

1. Acceptance
By downloading, installing, or using Ethercrypt, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the application.
2. Nature of the Software
Ethercrypt is an open-source, zero-knowledge password manager and TOTP authenticator and does not operate any hosted service, backend system, or user account infrastructure.
All data is stored locally on the user’s device or in user-selected third-party storage providers.
3. No Accounts or Hosted Service
Ethercrypt does not provide user accounts, authentication services, or centralized storage.
No user data is transmitted to or stored on developer-controlled servers.
4. License
Ethercrypt is distributed under the MIT License. The MIT License governs use, modification, and distribution of the software code.
5. User Responsibility
- Protect your master password
- Secure your device
- Maintain backups of encrypted data
- Understand that lost passwords cannot be recovered
6. Acceptable Use
- Do not bypass security mechanisms
- Do not use the software for unlawful purposes
- Do not interfere with normal operation of the application
- Reverse engineering only where permitted by applicable law
7. Service Availability
Ethercrypt is provided “as is”. Features may be modified, updated, or discontinued at any time.
No guarantee is provided regarding availability, compatibility, or error-free operation.
8. Third-Party Services
Ethercrypt may integrate with user-selected third-party services, including:
- Google Cloud Firestore / Firebase
- Google Drive
- Microsoft OneDrive
- Dropbox
These services are independent of Ethercrypt and governed by their own terms and privacy policies. The developer is not responsible for their availability, security, or behavior.
9. Privacy
Use of Ethercrypt is also governed by the Ethercrypt Privacy Policy.
10. Termination
Users may stop using Ethercrypt at any time by uninstalling the application.
Since no accounts or backend systems exist, there is no server-side termination process.
11. No Warranty & Limitation of Liability
Ethercrypt is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law.
- No warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
- No guarantee of uninterrupted or error-free operation
- No guarantee of security against all possible threats
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for:
- Loss of data or credentials
- Loss of access due to forgotten passwords
- Use or inability to use the software
- Security incidents or unauthorized access
- Failures of third-party services
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability where such exclusion is not permitted under applicable law.
12. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany.
Where legally permissible, the place of jurisdiction shall be Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
13. Changes to Terms
These Terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the application constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
